To find out more about Sicily...

Sicily is an island rich in Greek, Roman, Arab and Norman influences. Between archaeological sites, villages, beaches and volcanoes, each corner of the island reveals a unique facet. Here are a few must-see destinations:
Cathédrale de Palerme

Palermo

Palermo, a city of a thousand contrasts, seduces visitors with its Arab-Norman architecture, lively markets and sumptuous palaces. Don't miss Palermo Cathedral, the Norman Palace and the Ballarò market for an authentic immersion experience.
Temple de la Concorde à Agrigente

The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento

This UNESCO-listed site is a journey back in time. The Greek temples, including Concordia, are among the best preserved in the ancient world.
Mont Etna en Sicile

Catania and Etna

The island's second-largest city, Catania is dominated by Mount Etna, Europe's highest active volcano. Hiking, 4x4 excursions or wine tasting on its slopes offer an unforgettable experience.
Théâtre antique de Taormine

Taormina, the Sicilian jewel

Taormina is a pearl perched high above the sea, offering breathtaking views of the sea and Mount Etna. Its ancient theater, still used for shows, is a must-see.
îles Éoliennes

The Aeolian Islands

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, these volcanic islands offer spectacular scenery. Lipari, Vulcano and Stromboli are perfect for a getaway between hiking and swimming.
Église à Syracuse

Syracuse and the island of Ortygia

An ancient Greek city, Syracuse is home to an ancient theater and the charming Ortygia district, with its narrow streets, Duomo square and Arethusa fountain.
Réserve naturelle orientée du Zingaro

San Vito Lo Capo and the Zingaro reserve

Ideal for beach and nature lovers, this region offers crystal-clear waters and breathtaking coastal hiking trails.

A few things you need to know

From France, direct flights connect Paris, Marseille, Lyon and other French cities to Palermo or Catania in 2h to 3h. Round-trip air tickets cost on average 100 to 300 euros, depending on the season and airline.

Discover all our flights and our best prices directly on our flight booking platform.

For a first stay, we recommend one week, to discover the island's must-sees. A trip of 10 to 15 days allows for more in-depth exploration, particularly of the Aeolian Islands and less touristy villages.

  • For European Union nationals, a valid ID card or passport is sufficient.
  • No visa is required for a short-term tourist stay.

The official language is Italian, with a Sicilian dialect still widely used. However, English is understood in tourist areas. Here are some useful expressions:

  • Buongiorno : Good morning
  • Grazie : Thank you
  • Per favore : Please
  • Dov'è...? : Where is...?
  • Il conto, per favore : The bill, please

Sicily uses the euro (€), which makes payments easier for travelers from France. Credit cards are accepted in most establishments, but it's best to carry a little cash for markets and small shops.

Sicily enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters.

  • Spring (April-June) and autumn (September-October): Ideal for visiting without the crowds and enjoying pleasant temperatures.
  • Summer (July-August): Perfect for the beach, but beware of the heat (up to 40°C) and tourist influx.
  • Winter (November-March): Quieter, with a mild climate, ideal for discovering culture and gastronomy.

Sicilian cuisine is a true sensory journey, influenced by Italian, Arab and Spanish traditions. Here are a few must-tries:

  • Arancini : Stuffed, breaded and fried rice balls.
  • Pasta alla Norma : Pasta with eggplant, ricotta and tomato sauce.
  • Caponata : Sweet and sour mix of eggplant, tomato and capers.
  • Cannoli : Crisp pastry topped with sweet ricotta.
  • Granita : Crushed ice served with brioche, ideal in summer.
  • Marsala and Nero d'Avola : Local wines a must-taste.

Sicily is in the same time zone as France (GMT+1 in winter, GMT+2 in summer).
