A few things you need to know

For French and European citizens, a valid ID card or passport is sufficient to enter Greece. No visa is required for a tourist stay of less than 90 days.

The official currency is the euro (€), which makes payments easier for European travelers.
Credit cards are widely accepted, but it's always useful to have some cash for small stores or taverns in remote villages.

Greece enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters.

  • April to June & September to October: Best time to travel, with pleasant temperatures between 20 and 30°C and fewer tourists.
  • July and August: Very hot (often above 35°C), ideal time to enjoy the beaches but also the most crowded.
  • November to March: Mild winter, perfect for visiting archaeological sites without the crowds, but some islands are less accessible.

Greek cuisine is tasty and authentic, featuring local products such as olive oil, feta cheese and aromatic herbs.

Some must-try dishes:

  • Moussaka: Gratin made with eggplant, minced meat and béchamel sauce.
  • Souvlaki : Marinated meat skewers, served with pita bread and tzatziki.
  • Dolmades : Vine leaves stuffed with rice, meat and herbs.
  • Spanakopita : Puff pastry with spinach and feta cheese.
  • Baklava : Sweet pastry made with filo pastry, honey and nuts.

Greece is at GMT+2, i.e. +1 hour ahead of France in winter and +2 hours in summer.
